Pune: The PMC on Wednesday handed over a class-II post appointment letter to Asawari Jagdale, the daughter of Santosh Jagdale, who was killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 last year. The letter was presented to Asawari at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters by mayor Manjusha Nagpure, leader of the house Ganesh Bidkar, and municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram. During the ceremony, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke with Asawari over phone, offering congratulations and support.Expressing her gratitude, Asawari thanked CM Fadnavis, deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and various officials who worked to expedite the hiring process. “It is because of my father’s blessings that I have secured this position at PMC,” she said. The appointment comes nearly 11 months after the attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 victims, including Santosh Jagdale, a resident of Pune. Mayor Nagpure noted that Asawari is highly qualified for the role, holding both a BSc in computer science and an MBA. Based on her academic background, she has been appointed as an administrative officer within the corporation. The path to this appointment was marked by significant bureaucratic delays, a matter raised several months ago by Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni. Kulkarni had written a formal letter to Union home minister Amit Shah, urging him to intervene. She highlighted that despite the family’s repeated representations, there had been no progress, leading to unnecessary emotional distress and financial hardship for the bereaved family.Following Kulkarni’s advocacy, the state govt directed the PMC to complete the necessary formalities immediately. Deputy CM Shinde further instructed the corporation to treat the matter as a high priority, leading to the finalisation of the appointment this week.
