Nagpur: The office of civil surgeon, Nagpur, has secured the first rank in Maharashtra in public health dept rankings for January — marking the first time the district has achieved this distinction.Under civil surgeon Dr Nivrutti Rathod, the district has strengthened delivery of healthcare services across rural hospitals, sub-district facilities and the district hospital. Key services include maternal and child healthcare, pre- and post-natal care, family welfare programmes, routine immunisation, and both minor and major surgeries, along with regular health camps in rural areas.Officials attribute the top ranking to the effective implementation of flagship programmes such as the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, tuberculosis eradication initiatives, non-communicable disease control, mental health services, blindness control, dialysis services, telemedicine, and improved OPD/IPD performance indicators.In the same evaluation, the district health officer, Nagpur, secured third rank at the state level, highlighting the district’s overall performance in public health delivery. Regular hospital inspections by the civil surgeon, direct interaction with patients to assess service quality, continuous monitoring through video conferencing and review meetings, and prompt resolution of issues have led to visible improvements in healthcare outcomes and programme execution.Dr Rathod stated that the focus will remain on maintaining quality healthcare services and strengthening infrastructure. Special emphasis is also being laid on schemes such as the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, and the ‘Majhe Gaav – Arogya Sampanna Gaav’ campaign.He credited the achievement to the coordinated efforts of the district administration, including the district collector, zilla parishad leadership, and the entire health department team.
