Koraput: The additional district judge in Rayagada on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman last Nov. Swift investigation by Odisha Police led to the conviction within four months.According to a release by the police, the incident occurred on Nov 18, 2025. The survivor and her husband were waiting in Rayagada to catch a train to Koraput. The accused allegedly lured them to a colony on the pretext of providing them with accommodation since no train was available at that time. Later, finding the woman alone, he sexually assaulted her. Following a complaint lodged by the survivor, police acted promptly and arrested the accused.Police officers said since the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, prompt investigation, strong evidence collection, and timely filing of charge sheets have helped ensure faster conviction in such cases, reflecting the police’s commitment to women’s safety.On the occasion, DGP Y B Khurania congratulated Rayagada SP Swathy S Kumar for police’s efforts.
