Jaipur: Intensive Care Units (ICU) services in hospitals across the state will be strengthened to ensure better treatment for critically ill patients and more effective emergency medical management. To achieve this, the health dept is preparing a standard guideline for ICU, aimed at improving the quality, consistency, and readiness of critical care services in govt hospitals.A senior health dept official said, “A detailed discussion on the proposed framework was conducted in which expert inputs were invited from specialist doctors of medical colleges, chief medical health officers, and ICU in-charges from across the state. These suggestions will form the basis of the draft guidelines, which will then be sent to the Centre for the development of a standard protocol.”According to the official, the state is working toward a more structured and effective ICU system so that patients in critical condition can receive timely and effective treatment. She said that the dept has sought practical suggestions from field-level experts and institutional specialists to ensure that the proposed guidelines are comprehensive and implementable.Proposed guidelines will cover key aspects of Intensive Care Unit care, including infection prevention and control, availability of trained medical and nursing staff, improved patient monitoring systems, organ support techniques, and strengthening the capacity for immediate treatment during emergencies, said the official.Emphasis will be placed on ensuring the availability and proper functioning of essential ICU equipment. This includes multipara monitors for each patient, oxygen supply systems, suction facilities, IV pumps, ventilators, defibrillators, and oxygen cylinders. The objective is to ensure that all critical care units are adequately equipped and capable of delivering prompt and effective treatment.
