In a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge he said, “With an overwhelming sense of sadness today, I hereby tender my resignation from all posts, privileges and the primary membership of the Indian National Congress.”
There is a buzz that Bordoloi might be fielded from Dispur assembly seat by BJP. In last couple of days Bordoloi has fired salvo against Assam Pradesh Congress committee President Gaurav Gogoi.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended an offer to disgruntled Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi to join BJP and contest from any assembly seat of his choice.
Speaking in New Delhi, Sarma said, “The party held its meeting and we will give AGP 26 seats and BPF 11 seats, while the rest will be contested by BJP. The BJP parliamentary board will meet on Wednesday, and a list of candidates will be announced on Wednesday or Thursday.”
Nagaon MP Bordoloi, senior leader of Congress, had earlier expressed displeasure over Dr Asif Nazar being considered for the party ticket from Lahorighat assembly constituency. He has written to Jitendra Singh, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, in charge of Assam, outlining his concerns.Bordoloi told media persons that he felt humiliated by the way he had been treated within the party, adding that he had been sidelined since Shashi Tharoor contested for Congress president in 2022.Sarma said he had not personally spoken to Bordoloi yet but reiterated his invitation: “If he wishes, he can join BJP and we will provide him a seat to contest in the assembly polls. No Sanatani Hindu with self-respect can stay in Congress.”
Meanwhile, Bordoloi’s son, Prateek Bordoloi, has been named the Congress candidate for the Margherita seat.
Sarma, on Monday, said the developments reflected his earlier prediction that Bordoloi might not remain in the Congress for long. “I had already predicted this. I knew he would not be able to stay in the party for long because the individuals who allegedly tried to murder him were welcomed with a gamosa by the APCC chief. I have worked with him for fifteen years and he has self-respect. Many people ignore self-respect and stay in the party, but one day they will not be able to continue and will leave. Pradyut Bordoloi will leave the party by 2029,” Sarma said.
