Vadodara: The byelection for the Umreth assembly constituency in Anand district will be held on April 23. The seat turned vacant following the demise of former BJP MLA Govind Parmar.According to officials, the Umreth assembly seat has 242,836 registered voters — 105,990 men and 100,909 women.A total of 306 polling stations will be set up and voting will be conducted using electronic voting machines (EVMs) with VVPAT units, officials said.District election officer and collector Praveen Chaudhary on Tuesday held a meeting of nodal officers for the Umreth byelection.Chaudhary said that 18 Class I and Class II officers were appointed as nodal officers to oversee various aspects of the election process. He instructed them to carry out their responsibilities strictly according to the checklists and guidelines from the Election Commission of India, and to remain in close coordination with the district election officer and deputy district election officer to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.He also said that all personnel associated with the election process will undergo mandatory election training ahead of polling day. Officials said surveillance teams, including flying squads, static surveillance teams, video surveillance teams and video viewing teams, will monitor the election process.
