Noida: Power supply to Mahagun Mywoods in Greater Noida West was cut on Monday morning after the developer failed to clear electricity dues of about Rs 72 lakh, leaving thousands of residents dependent on diesel generators. The connection was restored around 8pm after the dues were cleared.Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL) officials said power supply was disconnected at 9am after repeated notices to the society management went unanswered. The residential complex has a total of 31 towers with around 6,100 flats. Of these, 4,800 units in 27 towers, housing more than 15,000 residents, are occupied. The project is still under the control of the developer as four towers remain under construction, and an apartment owners’ association has not yet been formed.Residents said the outage has forced the complex to rely entirely on diesel generators, raising costs and causing frequent disruptions.“Residents have to recharge prepaid power meters. Yet, we have to suffer because the builder has not cleared the dues,” said Anil Verma, a resident. “Since 9am, home appliances and lifts have been running on gensets. With so many households using electricity at the same time, the load is high, and the MCBs keep tripping. Even lifts and common areas are at risk.”Residents said the timing has made the situation more difficult, with families at home during the school holiday period and electricity use remaining high throughout the day.According to NPCL, the billing cycle for the disputed amount began on Feb 18, when a total bill of Rs 84.33 lakh was generated. The payment deadline was Feb 28, with March 15 set as the disconnection date if the amount remained unpaid. The developer made partial payments in the days leading up to the deadline, clearing Rs 5 lakh on March 12, Rs 6.5 lakh on March 13 and Rs 1.5 lakh on March 14, which brought the total amount paid to Rs 13 lakh. However, more than Rs 71 lakh remained outstanding, prompting the discom to cut power.Officials said the complex operates on a single-point electricity connection, meaning the builder collects power charges from residents and pays the distribution company. Later on Monday, society maintenance officials said around Rs 35 lakh was paid by afternoon, and Rs 15 lakh by evening totalling about Rs 50 lakh. The remaining amount is expected to be cleared by Tuesday. Following an undertaking by the developer, power supply was restored at 8pm. NPCL also said the latest action was not an isolated case. The power supply to the society had been disconnected three times earlier in recent months over unpaid bills — on Nov 14 and 21 and again on Dec 15 last year. The discom has taken similar action elsewhere too. In Feb, it cut power to Himalaya Pride society in Techzone-4 of Greater Noida West over unpaid dues of about Rs 6.5 lakh.
