Namakkal: Residents near Pallipalayam in Namakkal district held a black flag protest on Monday, against the lack of electricity. They also threatened to boycott the upcoming assembly election if their demand is not met.More than 500 families live in Avathipalayam and Ramakrishna Nagar, near Pallipalayam. Of these, 55 houses in the village have not been given electricity connections for over five years.The electricity board had recently fined them for illegally taking electricity from nearby houses. Irked over being penalised, residents raised the lack of electricity in their houses to the revenue department and the Hindu religious and charitable endowments department officials as the land belongs to a temple. However, they were not provided with a solution as officials said the land embroiled in a legal issue. Following Monday’s protest, revenue and police officials held talks with the protesters and assured them that their issues would be resolved after the election.
