UDHAGAMANDALAM: The Ooty all women police arrested a govt doctor on Monday on charges of raping a medical college student after allegedly promising to help her clear her examinations.The arrested, Dr Om Prakash, was working in the emergency ward of the Nilgiris Government Medical College and Hospital. The rape survivor was allegedly approached by the doctor with an offer to ensure her academic success.Police said Dr Prakash claimed that he could use his influence with university authorities to secure passing marks for her. On that pretext, he allegedly lured the student to a private hotel, where he raped her while she was under the influence of alcohol.The incident came to light after a heated argument broke out between the student and the doctor inside the hotel room. Hotel staff, alerted by the commotion, intervened and informed police.The police reached the scene and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings indicated that the doctor had raped the student. He was then taken in for questioning and later arrested.During inquiries, police found that Om Prakash had been married twice, though neither of his wives was living with him. A case has been registered against him. Police are also investigating whether he used similar tactics to target other students.
