Jaipur: In response to a writ petition by Rajasthan-based farmer group Kisan Mahapanchayat, the Supreme Court Friday directed the Centre to consult stakeholders on revising policies to boost pulse cultivation. The petition was filed by Rampal Jat, national president of Kisan Mahapanchayat, in Aug 2025 seeking policy intervention to boost pulse cultivation and protect domestic farmers. The court observed that an effective policy framework must ensure a remunerative Minimum Support Price (MSP), timely procurement of pulses, and appropriate regulation of the pricing and import of yellow peas so that domestic growers are not adversely affected. It also called for stronger coordination among Union ministries to help farmers shift from wheat and paddy to pulses. It said that the govt may consider the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices while formulating policy measures. The Centre was asked to convene a meeting of relevant stakeholders and place the outcome of the deliberations on record. The matter was listed for further hearing on May 8, 2026.
