Chennai: Police arrested a woman for stealing gold jewellery from a passenger travelling on a city bus near Alandur. The victim, Latha, 58, is a resident of Trichy. She was travelling by bus to Chennai to visit her daughter, who lives in Madipakkam. After arriving at Kelambakkam, she boarded an Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus to reach Madipakkam. After reaching her daughter’s house, when Latha checked her bag, she found that about 79g of gold jewellery, that was kept along with cash in the bag, was missing. Following her complaint, Madipakkam police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, it was found that the theft had occurred while Latha was travelling on the city bus. Further investigation revealed that the accused Maheswari, 38, was a resident of Ganapathi Colony in East Tambaram, and a habitual offender. Police arrested Maheswari and recovered about 6 sovereigns of gold jewellery and 3 lakh n her possession. Further investigation is under way.
