Ahmedabad: Vastrapur police on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old domestic help for allegedly stealing a licensed pistol and ammunition from a businessman’s home in Vastrapur. The 49-year-old dairy business owner filed a police complaint. The Colt .25 calibre pistol originally belonged to his late mother, who had purchased it in 2004 for self-protection.The businessman was planning to deposit the weapon with an authorised dealer before Holi, but found that the pistol, its magazine, and ammunition were missing from the cupboard. When the family could not locate the weapon, suspicion fell on the domestic help who had been employed two months ago for Rs 15,000 a month. The helper lived with the businessman.When questioned, the help allegedly failed to give a satisfactory explanation. During police questioning, the accused confessed to stealing the firearm. Police recovered the pistol valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh, along with 12 live rounds of ammunition from his possession.
