Ahmedabad: A member of a political party was detained with around 10 litres of country liquor after the city crime branch raided an Amraiwadi location on Saturday. Police said the man was associated with AAP and had contested the AMC elections as the candidate of that party.According to officers, the crime branch team was on routine patrol in different parts of the city to curb prohibited activities such as illegal liquor trade and gambling when it received a tip-off from a source. The information suggested that a man allegedly sold country liquor in public near the Vanzara Samaj Vadi area in the Shivanandnagar locality of Amraiwadi. Acting on the input, the police team called two independent witnesses and conducted a raid at the specified location. Officers noticed a man sitting with a bag and identified him based on the information received. The team immediately detained him and carried out a search in the presence of the witnesses. Police found a plastic bag containing 20 small polythene packets filled with liquid. Officers said the smell of country liquor wafted out when the packets were opened. Each packet contained about 500ml of liquor, taking the total quantity to 10 litres. Police asked the man to produce a valid permit or licence for possessing or selling liquor, but he reportedly failed to provide any documents. The officers then seized the liquor, estimated to be worth Rs 2,000.
