Chitradurga: Three reserve sub-inspectors (RSIs) died on the spot and two other officers were critically injured when their car collided with a truck near Heggare in Chitradurga district on the Bengaluru-Ballari Road on Sunday morning, police said.The accident occurred around 7am near Prakash Sponge Iron Company, within the jurisdiction of the Aimangala police station, when five police officers were travelling in a car from Bengaluru to Ballari to attend a wedding event.The front portion of the car was completely crushed in the impact. The three RSIs in the car, Manjunath from Gangavati, Amarish from Sindhanur, and Sachin Thirthahalli, died instantly. 2 other officers, PSI Ishwar and RSI Mahantesh, sustained severe injuries. All 5 worked in VIP security Bengaluru.Preliminary information suggested the driver dozed off during the early morning journey, causing the car to lose control and crash at high speed into the back of a truck.One of the injured officers was in a critical condition and was immediately admitted to Basaveshwara Hospital in Chitradurga for treatment. The other injured officer also received treatment in the intensive care unit at the hospital.Challakere police visited the scene for inspection after learning of the incident. A case was registered at Challakere police station, and further investigation was under way to determine the exact cause of the accident.“All were going to Ballari from Bengaluru to attend a wedding and their car hit a parked truck,” shared Chitradurga SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru.
