Puducherry Assembly Elections 2026 Date

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the Puducherry assembly elections 2026. According to the statement, the elections will be held in 1 phase on April 9, 2026 and the results will be out on May 4, 2025. In the press conference, EC has announced the schedule for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry.
This year, the Union Territory will hold elections for all 30 constituencies of the 16th Puducherry Legislative Assembly. While the Congress is fighting the polls in an alliance with DMK and CPI, the opposition consisted of All India NR Congress, BJP and AIADMK.
In 2021, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a simple majority in the elections, and N Rangaswamy of the All India NR Congress was sworn in as the Chief Minister for the fourth time during that time.
In the National Democratic Alliance, the All India NR Congress contested 16, while the BJP and AIADMK fielded candidates on nine and five seats respectively. The voter turnout was 83.38 per cent. As per the official data, the NDA won 16 seats (AINRC-10, BJP-6) while the UPA won nine seats (DMK-six, Congress-2, independent-1). Five other independent candidates also won.
Poll Preparedness Reviewed
The Election Commission’s Special Observer, Pratap Singh, convened a meeting on Tuesday with officials from various enforcement agencies to evaluate Puducherry’s readiness for the upcoming assembly elections.
According to a statement from Puducherry’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), P Jawhar, representatives from the enforcement agencies gave comprehensive presentations on their departments’ election preparedness and the measures being implemented for effective monitoring and enforcement during the election period.
In addition to the CEO, the meeting saw the participation of State Police Nodal Officer R Sathiya Sundaram (Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Law and Order), Deputy CEOs B. Thillaivel and M. Kandasamy, as well as Nodal Officers from the Police Department and various enforcement agencies, all of whom provided detailed presentations.
