Ahmedabad: City’s LD College of Engineering has begun using the traditional wood-fired stoves in its canteen amid a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, which are routinely used to prepare meals for students in canteens and hostels. The college has three canteens, which together require more than 40 gas cylinders every month to meet the food requirements. With regular supplies affected, canteen operators adopted the temporary measure to ensure meal services continued without interruption. Currently, food for students is cooked on traditional stoves using firewood. Concerns over LPG availability have grown in recent days in several areas amid global supply uncertainty and rising international tensions. The situation has also triggered panic bookings and higher demand for gas cylinders in some places, adding pressure on the supply chain. Canteen operators said normal cooking operations would resume once regular LPG cylinder supplies are restored.
