Coimbatore: Two men were arrested in Kuniyamuthur on Friday for trying to cheat a private gold loan firm by pledging counterfeit jewellery.The arrested have been identified as A Prem Aananth, 31, from Ukkadam, and P Arunkumar, 32, from Tirupur. Police said the duo visited the loan firm with four gold bangles weighing about 33 grams.However, suspecting the quality of the jewellery, the branch staff tested its authenticity, which confirmed that the bangles were fake. When the staff questioned the men, an argument broke out, after which the manager alerted the police.A case was registered and the two were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, police are investigating if they were involved in similar fraud attempts elsewhere in the district.
