Mumbai: Police arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 45-day-old baby from the hands of his grandmother in the Bazaar Road area of Bandra (W) on Thursday at around 6.30 pm.According to the FIR, the accused, Rajesh Jagtap, a Grant Road resident, allegedly approached the elderly woman and forcibly took away the child. On hearing her screams, a medical shop owner and bystanders intervened, following which the man fled from the spot. However, angry residents later caught hold of the suspect and rescued the child. Residents also allegedly thrashed the accused before handing him over to the police. “Probe is on to find out whether Jagtap is part of any gang involved in kidnapping and trafficking,” said a police officer of the Bandra police station. During this time, another woman claimed that the same man earlier tried to kidnap her child as well.
