Jaisalmer: A youth was attacked on the road Saturday while going to the market to buy vegetables with his brother on his bike, after family members of the girl he eloped with confronted him in Vishala village of Barmer district. The girl’s three brothers and their mother allegedly stopped him, forcibly took him to their home, and struck him with lethal blows of an axe. Police said all four accused were detained. Later, police used a bulldozer to remove illegal construction and property linked to the accused, during which a crowd gathered and raised slogans.SP Narendra Meena said that four months ago a girl and a boy from a particular community eloped of their own will, and both later returned and were living at their respective homes. He said that on Saturday, Mahesh (26) was going to the market with his brother, the girl’s three brothers and mother stopped him and attacked him with an axe, then took him to their home and beat him. He was taken to the district hospital by some villagers. Due to his critical condition, he was referred to Jodhpur, where his treatment is ongoing. Police said the attackers fled the spot after the assault.On receiving information, Gramin Thana police, DSP Ramesh Kumar Sharma, and ASP Nitesh Arya, along with police teams, reached the spot and gathered information about the incident. Police said four persons were detained.ASP Nitesh Arya said Mahesh is undergoing treatment at MDM Hospital in Jodhpur and his condition remains critical.Officials said the encroachment linked to the accused in Vishala village was demolished, and additional police force was deployed in the town.
