Gorakhpur: A 24-year-old schoolteacher was killed and her younger sister was injured after a speeding truck hit their scooter near the Nibihwa railway overbridge in Chauri Chaura area here on Saturday. The accident triggered chaos on the Gorakhpur–Deoria road, leading to a traffic jam for nearly half an hour.The deceased was identified as Shreya Vishwakarma (24), resident of Chauri village under Chauri Chaura police station, a teacher in a private school in Futhwa Inar. According to police, Shreya was on her way to school with her younger sister Khushi (20) when a speeding truck from Gorakhpur side rammed their scooter near the overbridge. Both sisters fell on the road and Shreya came under the wheels of the truck and died on the spot of severe head injuries. Khushi was flung to a distance and suffered multiple injuries.The truck driver fled towards Deoria. The incident drew a large crowd and angry locals blocked the road, causing a long traffic jam on the busy stretch.Chauri Chaura police reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem and rushed her injured sister to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said efforts are on to identify the truck through CCTV footage and trace the driver.
