Chennai: A 1995 batch IPS officer and director-general of police, B Bala Nagadevi, has become the first woman intelligence chief of Tamil Nadu. An order appointing her to the post was issued by home secretary Dheeraj Kumar on Saturday.Bala Nagadevi was DGP of the economic offences wing CID prior to the new posting. She earlier handled challenging positions, including as head of the commando force. During that tenure, she successfully handled the All India police firing competition in Umancheri.A native of Lakdikapul, Hyderabad, Bala Nagadevi studied B Tech.Also, inspector-general of police Santhosh Kumar was assigned to head the Economic Offences Wing CID while inspector-general Kumar Meena was assigned to head the civil supplies CID.
