Chennai: A 42-year-old woman was gang raped by three men at Melmudhalambedu village near Gummidipoondi on Thursday. Hours later, police arrested Ranjith, 27, Muthukrishnan, 25, and Thulasiraman, 20, all construction workers from the same locality. The men entered the woman’s shop on Thursday night, struck up a conversation, threatened her and dragged her to a nearby secluded spot where they assaulted her, police said.Passers-by heard her cries and rescued her, but the suspects had fled by then. Based on her complaint, Gummidipoondi all women police registered a case and formed teams to nab the assailants. The suspects were tracked and apprehended on Friday. They were later lodged in Puzhal central prison.
