Vadodara: A message with a bomb threat that was sent to Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Makarpura a few days ago was allegedly sent by a teenaged student. Police on Friday registered a case against the 16-year-old boy for criminal intimidation involving death threats and offences under the IT Act. Police said that the boy sent the message to the WhatsApp number of one of the KV Makarpura teachers on March 5.“The message ‘your school will be completely destroyed tomorrow’ was sent in the Arabic language. When the school management told the police, teams conducted a security sweep but found nothing amiss,” a police official said. Cybercrime sleuths began an investigations and to trace the international WhatsApp number from which the message was sent began.“The investigation revealed that the phone number was generated by a mobile application. The student used the app to generate the phone number and cover his tracks, as it is difficult to trace such numbers,” the police official added. Police suspect he learned the technique of using international numbers through apps from YouTube videos.Police traced the boy through the phone used to generate the number. The boy told investigators he was playing a prank. A similar incident occurred last month, when an 11-year-old boy studying in Class 5 in Bright School sent an email to the school threatening bomb blasts. Police traced back the email to the boy. When police reached his residence, the mother was unaware of her child’s act. The boy said he was watching the news of bomb threats in schools across the state. He said that he wanted a holiday from school and thus he sent the email.
