COIMBATORE: Chief minister M K Stalin on Friday inaugurated the Ukkadam bus terminal -1 in Coimbatore via videoconferencing from Chennai.The Coimbatore corporation planned to construct two bus terminals in Ukkadam at a total cost of Rs 21.55 crore. The terminal one spread across 3.27 acres of land opposite to the Ukkadam Periyakulam has been built at a cost of Rs 13 crore.The terminal has 14 shops and two food courts. It has 28 bus bays. The state-of-the-art bus terminal has a vast waiting area with tensile roofing, seats for 60 passengers, a feeding room, public Wi-Fi and mobile charging facilities.The corporation has planned to set up live bus tracking and digital notifications at the terminal, for which data from Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation is awaited. A corporation official said, “Once the data is received, bus numbers, destinations, and arrival and departure timings will be displayed at the entrance for the passengers, which will be similar to the system at airports. As many as 30 CCTV cameras will be installed with a live monitoring room and emergency response systems.“Construction work on terminal-2 is under way.The CM also inaugurated two Mudhalvar Padaippagam facilities (reading and co-working spaces) at Prabhu Nagar in Kavundampalayam and in Gandhi Maa Nagar. Each of them was built at a cost of Rs 3.36 crore.
