Dibrugarh: Members of the Asomiya Yuva Mancha and Asomiya Mahila Mancha held a protest at Chowkidingee Chariali in Dibrugarh on Friday, raising several demands, including expedited justice for singer Zubeen Garg, introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Assam, deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants under the Assam Accord and measures to control rising prices of essential commodities. The protesters gathered at the busy intersection, carrying banners with messages on their key issues and raising slogans.Ranu Tamuli, secretary of Asomiya Mahila Mancha, urged faster legal action in the Zubeen Garg death case.“The CM had earlier assured justice for Zubeen da, but now says it is up to the judiciary. We support the courts but proceedings need to be expedited. More than six months have passed since the incident. Justice must be delivered soon. The PM is in Assam today, and the Union home minister is expected soon. We request the CM to press for quicker resolution of the case before the assembly polls,” Tamuli said. She proposed setting up a fast-track court for the matter.A leader of Asomiya Yuva Mancha said, “We demand that the CM ensure justice for Zubeen, implement Inner Line Permit across the state, and take steps to address the increase in prices of essential items like rice, vegetables and fuel. BJP govt has been in power for nearly a decade, but the implementation of ILP remains pending.”He also raised concerns over illegal immigration from Bangladesh, calling for strict enforcement of the Assam Accord. The protesters criticised the govt for not acting on these issues despite repeated representations. They linked the demands to protecting Assamese culture, indigenous rights and economic stability in the region.
