Vadodara: The hostel canteen at Baroda Medical College (BMC) witnessed anxious moments on Thursday after the mess operator said only one commercial gas cylinder remained for cooking.BMC and Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) have four canteens across the campus, including those at the hostel, college and hospital. These canteens use commercial LPG cylinders to prepare meals and snacks for students, staff, junior doctors and relatives of patients.Officials said the contractor running the hostel mess alerted the administration about the possibility of the last cylinder getting exhausted without fresh supply. The matter was then taken up with the district administration.SSGH superintendent and in-charge dean of BMC, Dr R G Aiyer, said the authorities contacted the district supply officer and shared details of the number of commercial cylinders required at the campus canteens. “The administration has assured us that sufficient supply will be ensured,” he said.Food for patients admitted to SSGH is prepared using piped gas, which has not been affected in the city so far. Meanwhile, former students and donors have also assured the hospital and college that they would arrange meals if an emergency arises.
