Kolkata: Lalbazar has issued an alert to senior officers to ensure that law and order is not affected by the ongoing LPG and CNG crisis. Commissioner Supratim Sarkar has directed all police station heads to remain vigilant against black marketing, illegal diversion of cylinders, and any public unrest linked to fuel shortage. Police were told to keep watch on long queues at LPG agencies and CNG stations, assess local vulnerabilities, and act quickly to prevent any untoward incident.To stop black marketing and illegal diversion of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial use, senior officers have been told to take stock of the prevailing situation and maintain close surveillance in areas where shortage could trigger tension or profiteering.As part of contingency planning in police barracks, police units were encouraged to procure induction cookers wherever feasible. The order said units may also explore the use of electric kettles, microwave ovens, and other electric cooking or heating appliances as suitable alternatives to LPG. Other contingency measures were also advised depending on local conditions.
