Guwahati: PM Narendra Modi will launch a mega development drive worth nearly Rs 48,000 crore during his two-day visit to Assam beginning Friday, marking his fourth trip to the state in as many months, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.The visit is set to see one of the largest infrastructure packages ever announced for Assam, aimed at transforming connectivity, boosting clean energy and empowering local communities.
During the tour, the PM will inaugurate, lay foundation stones and flag off projects worth over Rs 47,800 crore across Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar. The projects span sectors including roads, railways, power, petroleum, waterways and social welfare.Modi will begin his visit on Friday in Kokrajhar by performing the bhoomi poojan for the Assam Mala 3.0 road projects worth Rs 3,200 crore, which will cover nearly 900 km of new roads to strengthen inter-state connectivity.He will also lay foundation stones for six other road projects in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) area, including four flyovers and two bridges. In addition, he will flag off three trains — the Kamakhya–Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, the Guwahati–New Jalpaiguri Express and the Narangi–Agartala Express.Later in the evening in Guwahati, Modi will launch projects worth Rs 19,680 crore. As part of the programme, he will distribute land pattas to tea garden workers in a landmark move granting them homestead rights, release the 22nd instalment of PM-KISAN to 9.3 crore farmers nationwide, and dedicate the Rs 2,300-crore Kopili Hydro Electric Project to the nation.
