Porvorim: Drivers caught speeding on five consecutive occasions are at risk of losing their driving licence, said transport minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday. Godinho said that the installation of 191 vehicle-tracking cameras will help reduce accidents and ensure responsible road behaviour.“If you are caught overspeeding five times continuously, you will lose your licence. Nobody will dare to speed. Goa will be a safer place. If we manage to get 191 cameras, automatically accidents will start reducing and people will drive responsibly,” said Godinho.Speaking in the assembly, Godinho also said that the policy allowing residents to retain their vehicle registration is on the anvil. He also addressed criticism about Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), particularly the shortage of buses. “I will get new buses,” said Godinho. He also reiterated that KTCL is not meant to be a profit-making organisation.“We took a decision at the KTCL board to go for digitisation. I urge the Kadamba chairman to implement it. Don’t delay. I want to tell the managing director also, it was delayed. I will not tolerate it. I want it implemented because revenue will also increase. I don’t know why the decision was changed,” said Godinho. He said that he would ensure that services of KTCL and the transport department would be brought online by the end of the year. Many MLAs urged the transport minister to lift the curbs on the renewal of the rent-a-cab and rent-a-bike vehicles. Right now, govt has stopped renewing licences once the vehicle crosses 12 years.
