Canacona: As several schools in Canacona along the national highway lack safety measures, parents and teachers have raised concerns, calling for improved road traffic management.Heavy traffic on the highway passing through Canacona makes crossing the road difficult for students, a parent said.St Teresa of Jesus High School, including its primary and higher secondary sections, is located on both sides of the road in Chavdi, Canacona. This creates difficulties for students and teachers while crossing the main highway, said Canacona Municipal Council chairperson Laxuman Pagui.Residents and members of the parent-teacher association (PTA) have demanded the construction of an overpass or flyover near the school for public safety.Pagui said some schools lack compound walls, and in some areas, speed breakers or pedestrian crossings are absent. There is an urgent need for better traffic management and enforcement of school zone safety rules to prevent accidents, due to reckless driving in school areas, said PTA chairman Lesima Dias.
