Guwahati: A video posted by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, showing a highway stretch in the state has prompted critics to allege that the clip was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).Responding to the criticism, Sarma dismissed the allegations and posted another clip, captioned, “Artificial Intelligence ❌ Assam Infrastructure ✅,” showing a convoy of vehicles moving through a road lined with BJP supporters.
His first video, shared on X, carried the caption “F1 Track ❌ Roads of Assam ✅” and showed a smooth highway. As the post gained traction, several users questioned its authenticity, claiming the visuals looked artificially generated.Opposition leaders seized on the controversy. Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh said Sarma had “made a fool of himself” and accused him of showcasing “random clips” instead of real development. “Check the National Highway roads around Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency for the truth,” Singh wrote.Senior BJP leaders quickly rallied behind the CM. Water resources minister Pijush Hazarika said critics with “negative IQ” were unable to accept Assam’s pace of infrastructure growth. He posted another video from the Jan Ashirwad Yatra, claiming it was shot on the same road and day as Sarma’s clip. Culture minister Bimal Borah also shared footage of a highway stretch at night, mocking detractors: “For Chamchas, even this is AI.”The Assam BJP on Thursday took to X, writing, “Some people see Artificial Intelligence in every picture of progress. Maybe that’s because they don’t want to see the real development happening on the ground.”
