Kanpur: A restaurant owner in the city was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after he was injured during an alleged assault for not fulfilling an extortion demand on Tuesday night. CCTV footage showed him being dragged by an SUV for about 80 metres in Gujaini police station area, allegedly when he refused to part with profits from his earnings during Holi festival.According to police complaint, car-borne man grabbed him by the collar and started driving the car. As the victim screamed, his employees chased the car. The SUV driver dumped the restaurant owner on the road and fled.According to reports, Ranjit Singh, resident of Barra-8, owns a sweet shop and restaurant located at Ramgopal Chauraha. The eatery is managed by his son Adarsh Kumar. Ranjit Singh said, “At around 12:15 am on Tuesday, as my son Adarsh closed the restaurant, Yashu Kumar, resident of Ramedi Mohalla Eidgah in Hamirpur, arrived in his SUV (UP 78 HZ 0571) from Jarauli Phase-2 and Yashu told my son to hand him over revenue earned during Holi. When Adarsh protested, he assaulted him and tried to snatch money from his pocket. Hearing the commotion, the restaurant employees came outside.”Yashu grabbed Adarsh by the collar and drove the car, dragging him for about 80 meters. When those present chased the car, Yashu dropped Adarsh on the road and fled. Adarsh was injured and his gold chain broke and was lost.Gujaini police station in charge Rajan Sharma said after receiving complaint, the victim was sent for medical examination. A case was registered and a search was on for the accused.
