Gurgaon: As many as 106 vehicle owners in the city were found to have more than 50 pending traffic challans each, prompting authorities to issue notices asking them to clear their dues. The notices warn the violators to settle the penalties at the earliest to avoid legal action.ACP (traffic) headquarters/highway Satyapal Yadav said that if repeat offenders fail to pay the penalty even after receiving the notice, police will write to the SDM concerned regarding cancelling their vehicle registration certificates or impounding their vehicles. The notice followed a review of enforcement records in which traffic police identified 142 vehicles with more than 50 pending challans. “Of the 142 vehicles, 106 were registered at Gurgaon addresses and their owners have now been served notices,” a traffic police officer said, adding that the repeat offenders were identified using an AI software. The drive is being carried out under the direction of DCP (traffic) Rajesh Mohan, who has instructed officers to take strict action against habitual traffic rule violators to improve road safety and discipline on city roads. Moreover, a meeting to review traffic management measures in the city was also chaired by the DCP on Tuesday. It was attended by ACP Satyapal Yadav, ACP traffic west Jai Singh, ACP traffic east Sanjay and other officials.During the meeting, officers were instructed to strictly enforce the zero tolerance policy against traffic violations and ensure that traffic congestion does not take place at any point. “Additional police personnel will be deployed at sensitive and congestion-prone locations, and special enforcement drives will be conducted against vehicles without number plates or without HSRP number plates,” officials said. “Traffic enforcement drives have been intensified across the city, and strict monitoring of traffic violators is being carried out to streamline traffic. Cases are also being registered against serious violators,” Vikas Kumar, traffic police spokesperson, said.“In recognition of these steps and for his ‘drive right shine bright’ traffic campaign, which recognises traffic heroes and encourages responsible driving, DCP Mohan will be fecilitated in New Delhi next month,” Kumar added.
