Srinagar, Mar 11: The Food Safety Department (FSD) on Wednesday conducted a series of market inspections across major commercial areas of Srinagar city and warned of strict action against violations.
The inspections were conducted at Karanagar, Balgarden and Residency Road, to ensure compliance with food safety standards and public health regulations.
A team from FSD Srinagar, led by Assistant Commissioner, Yameen Ul Nabi checked several food establishments and interacted with Food Business Operators (FBOs) regarding adherence to hygiene and quality norms. The drive was aimed at ensuring that food sold to consumers meets the standards laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
According to an official statement, FBOs were issued clear instructions to strictly align their operations with the rules and regulations prescribed under the Act.
The officials stressed that all food business operators must follow the legal framework governing food safety, including maintaining proper sanitation and hygiene at their establishments.
The team also directed shopkeepers and food handlers to keep their premises in clean and sanitary condition to prevent contamination. Emphasis was laid on maintaining high standards of personal and staff hygiene during food handling, preparation and processing.
Officials further advised food operators to upgrade their storage facilities and adopt proper waste disposal systems in order to meet the prescribed food safety standards.
The department warned that any lapse in maintaining hygiene or violation of food safety regulations would invite strict legal action, including heavy fines and suspension of business licences.
