Ludhiana: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation met municipal commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta on Wednesday to submit a memorandum regarding stalled development works. A former senior deputy mayor and a BJP councillor informed the commissioner that a contractor had stopped ongoing work in Ward Number 70, allegedly acting on the orders of the local AAP MLA.According to the delegation, the AAP MLA had initiated the project in the ward some time ago. However, they alleged that despite a formal work order being issued, the contractor abandoned the site two days ago at the behest of the MLA. When the councillor questioned the contractor, he reportedly refused to restart the work. Following the meeting, commissioner Gupta assured the BJP leaders that the development work in their ward would be resumed shortly. The BJP councillor claimed that halting these projects is an injustice to local residents, asserting that politics should not interfere with development. The leaders stated that they must first work hard to secure approvals for these projects, only to face hurdles when the works fail to commence or are stopped in the field. The former senior deputy mayor claimed that during their tenure, there was no “pick and choose” policy, and development was carried out irrespective of party affiliations. He emphasized that while there should be healthy competition between parties, the general public should not be made to suffer at any cost.
