Ludhiana: A Mangat Colony family was jolted awake in the early hours of Wednesday morning as a thief infiltrated their home, stealing cash before narrowly escaping a frantic backyard pursuit.The entire incident, which occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. while the household was asleep, was captured by the property’s CCTV cameras. According to the family, the intruder gained entry through an unlocked door in the room where the elderly patriarch was resting. Nasim, a resident of the house, said the thief meticulously searched through clothing and managed to pocket approximately ₹4,000 in cash.The situation escalated when the suspect attempted to snatch a mobile phone from beside the father’s pillow, inadvertently waking the family. Hearing the commotion, Nasim rushed from an adjacent room to intercept the intruder. A desperate chase ensued through the house and toward the exit. During the pursuit, Nasim’s father lost his balance and fell down a flight of stairs, sustaining injuries as the panicked thief leaped over the main gate and disappeared into the darkness.The victim’s family has filed a formal complaint with the Basti Jodhewal police. Along with the report, they provided high-clearance CCTV footage that clearly shows the suspect’s face during the entry and his hasty retreat. Local police confirmed they have initiated an investigation and are using the digital evidence to identify the suspect, who remains at large.
