Madikeri: DC SJ Somashekar Wednesday, reviewed plans to develop Coorg Village near Raja’s Seat in Madikeri to attract more visitors.At a meeting held at the DC office on upgrading Raja’s Seat, he stressed the need to improve Coorg Village as a tourist spot. SP Bindu Mani, AC Nithin Chakki and members of the Raja’s Seat development committee attended the meeting. The SP suggested shifting the ticket counter near Raja’s Seat to Coorg Village.“The intention was to develop Coorg Village and provide facilities to local self-help groups, but no one came forward, so those who were already doing business locally and those who were interested were given space on a rental basis,” said H Shashidhar, deputy director, horticulture department.Member Monthi Ganesh said the city’s Nehru Mantapa, also a tourist spot, should be further revitalised along with Coorg Village. She said steps must be taken to attract tourists.The DC instructed the project director of the Nirmiti Centre to take the necessary action to construct a ticket counter, set up an information centre, and establish a tourist-friendly food centre. He also directed the installation of CCTV cameras and solar lights, the arrangement of vehicle parking, and the launch of a miniature train.
