Ahmedabad: The state unit of the Congress party will conduct a 10-day programme across the state from March 11 to shortlist candidates for the upcoming elections for municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats and taluka panchayats.Speaking to the media at the GPCC headquarters, state Congress president Amit Chavda said, “The candidate selection process will take place between March 11 and March 20. Ticket aspirants will be heard directly, and the process of forming the selection panel for elections will also be undertaken.”The party also launched an online application system to make the process more accessible. A QR code was released, allowing interested individuals to scan and fill out a candidacy form for contesting elections in 15 municipal corporations across the state.He said that, as previously decided, 50 per cent of the tickets in local body elections will be given to candidates below the age of 50 to encourage youth participation.The terms of the municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar came to an end. In addition, elections will also be held for nine new municipal corporations: Navsari, Gandhidham, Morbi, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Porbandar and Surendranagar.Elections will also be held for 34 district panchayats, 262 taluka panchayats and 83 municipalities.
