Varanasi: In a crackdown against taxi drivers at LBSI Airport, police arrested four drivers and seized two vehicles for allegedly harassing passengers arriving at the airport, trying to force them into their cabs near the terminal building.Deputy Commissioner of Police (Varuna zone) Akash Patel stated that police took action, including arrests and vehicle seizures, after taxi drivers refused to follow rules and continued harassing passengers at the airport.Police stepped in to address the issue of taxi drivers harassing passengers at the airport, after complaints of coercion and rude behaviour piled up. Monitoring revealed that many drivers were using abusive language and being aggressive when passengers refused their servicesInstead of standing in the designated parking area, many drivers parked their vehicles on the arrival lane to stop and pick up passing passengers for rides. These acts of taxi and auto drivers on the airport premises also affected the traffic system and created chaos.The DCP stated that meetings were held with taxi and auto drivers at the airport, warning them to follow rules: stick to designated parking areas, avoid surrounding passengers, and behave respectfully.Four policemen were permanently deployed on the airport premises, and drivers who kept overlooking the instructions were identified before stern action was taken against them.
