Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) authorities collected fines of nearly Rs 7.5 lakh after registering 1,609 violations during a special tobacco enforcement drive carried out across the city recently.Chief commissioner Maheshwar Rao said 2,027 enforcement operations were conducted across all 27 assembly constituencies to ensure strict implementation of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. The drive focused on curbing smoking in public places, sale of loose cigarettes and tobacco products near educational institutions, and illegal sale of e-cigarettes.Bengaluru South city corporation recorded the highest number of violations (409 cases and fines worth Rs 2.1 lakh). Bommanahalli constituency reported 103 violations.
