Kolkata: Three fatal accidents, reported between Monday evening and Tuesday early morning in the Shyampukur, Burtolla and New Alipore police station areas, left three people dead in Kolkata. Incidentally, trucks were involved in all three accidents.The first fatal accident took place around 7.25 pm on Monday in front of 5, Bhupen Bose Avenue in north Kolkata under Shyampukur PS. Police said an empty light goods vehicle hit a yet-to-be-identified man (60) while he was trying to cross the road. The victim suffered multiple injuries. He was taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he died. Police seized the vehicle and took the driver into custody. In the second incident Pankaj Hela (40), a pillion rider on a motorcycle, died after a truck hit the motorcycle around 1.50 am on Tuesday on APC Road near Khanna Market under Burtolla PS and fled. Hela, a resident of Garcha First Lane in Ballygunge, was wearing a helmet. He suffered multiple injuries and was declared brought dead at RG Kar Hospital. Police said the motorcycle was taken into custody. The bike rider escaped unhurt.The third accident took place around 1 am on Tuesday on Tollygunge Circular Road near Mahabirtala under New Alipore PS. Aman Kumar Shaw (35), who was riding a motorcycle, died after an unknown vehicle hit his motorcycle and fled. Shaw, a resident of BL Saha Road, New Alipore, was not wearing a helmet. He suffered multiple injuries and was declared brought dead at SSKM Hospital. Police seized the motorcycle and started a search for the vehicle involved.
