JALANDHAR: A 24-year-old youth was found dead at Khurampur bus stop in Mehatpur, district Jalandhar, on Tuesday morning. A syringe was also lying near him when he was spotted lying inside the bus stop, which led to the suspicion that it could be a case of drug death. However, Mehatpur police station SHO Pankaj Kumar said that the deceased, Anmol, worked as a labourer, and his family said that they never saw him consuming any drugs. “We came to know that a syringe was lying near his body, but the reason for his death would come out from the post-mortem,” he said.Originally hailing from village Gobind Nagar, Anmol worked as a labourer and lived in Mehatpur on rent. He did not return to his home on Monday evening and was missing since then. All India Kisan Sabha district President Sandeep Arora, who was among those who saw Anmol lying there, also said that a syringe was lying near him. He said that the situation due to drugs in the area was bad. “On one side, Punjab chief minister and DGP claim that the name of the person informing about drug peddlers would be kept secret, but in our area, village Butte Dian Chhannan sarpanch Mohinder Singh was killed at the behest of drug peddlers after he pushed for action against them. Somebody from the police informed the peddlers that the sarpanch was pushing for action against them.”
