Kanpur: Wife of a noted cricketer filed a complaint case against her husband in a Kanpur court on Monday, alleging domestic violence and dowry harassment.Counsel of the complainant said that his client has already filed two cases against the accused and his family members. The first case, related to domestic violence, was registered on April 21, 2025, while the second one sought maintenance of Rs 50,000 and damages amounting to Rs 1 crore.The third complaint was filed on Monday in the court of the additional civil judge (second), Kanpur Nagar, under Section 210(i)(a) of the BNSS.The complainant alleged that she married the cricketer on April 26, 2021. She stated that her parents spent a substantial amount on the wedding, but her husband and in-laws allegedly demanded a car and Rs 10 lakh in cash as dowry. She further alleged that the ‘bidai’ ceremony was performed only after Rs 2.5 lakh in cash was paid.She alleged that after the marriage she was pressured to bring the car and cash from her parental home. She alleged that after consuming liquor her husband often assaulted her and forced physical relations even when she was ill. She also accused her in-laws of keeping her hungry for long periods which led to depression and adversely affected her career. She also accused her in-laws of abetting suicide.The counsel said that her client initially approached the police to lodge an FIR, but it was not registered. Subsequently, she filed a complaint in court against her husband. The court fixed Mar 27 for recording the complainant’s statement under the provisions of the BNSS.
