Chennai: The Chennai division of Southern Railway announced an e-auction to operate and manage a newly built multi-level parking facility at the multi-functional complex (MFC) within the premises of Egmore railway station. The parking facility is part of ongoing station redevelopment work aimed at improving passenger amenities and infrastructure. Indian Railways constructed two MFCs at the station—one on Gandhi-Irwin Road side and another on the Poonamallee High Road side. The buildings are designed to house commercial retail outlets along with organized multi-level parking facilities.The parking floors in the MFC building on the Gandhi-Irwin Road side were completed and are ready for operation. The proposed contract covers the operation and management of parking spaces on the second, third, and fourth floors of the building.The selected licensee will be responsible for regulating vehicle entry and exit, maintaining systematic parking arrangements, ensuring cleanliness of the premises, and deploying adequate manpower for smooth operations.Railways said the operator may also introduce value-added services within the designated parking floors, subject to prior approval. These may include facilities such as pay-and-use toilets, electric vehicle charging stations, and other passenger-oriented services. Charges for such services will be determined on a market-oriented basis. Officials said the e-auction route was adopted to ensure transparency and encourage wider participation from eligible operators.
