Hyderabad: With Maoist activity in India in its final stages and the Centre aiming to eliminate the insurgency by March 31, chief minister A Revanth Reddy Monday directed senior officials to redeploy about 1,200 personnel of the elite anti-Naxal Greyhounds force to other police wings as part of improved human resource management.“With combing operations coming down, Greyhounds staff should be accommodated in other wings. The purpose for which the force was raised is already achieved, what is the point in continuing the personnel there,” the chief minister said. He made the remarks while addressing the Telangana police officers’ retreat-2026, held at the RBVRR Telangana State Police Academy.During the interaction, he also said he had classified IPS officers into three categories — A, B and C. “In this hall, no one can claim that he knew beforehand where they will be posted until they see it on TV. Except the DGP, the chief secretary and me, no one else will know where an IPS officer will be posted. I have categorised officers into three types. C category will not be given any work, B category will be given administrative work, and A category will be given good postings,” the CM said.Emphasising better personnel management, Revanth said the deployment of police staff must be rationalised. “Police stations are formed taking mandal as criteria. But in some mandals there will be more population and in some, less. So, staff allocation should be done in a rational manner considering the police manual,” he said.He also announced that a chief secretary-led committee, with members from the police department including DGP B Shivadhar Reddy, would examine recommendations made during the retreat and assess the feasibility of reforms to strengthen policing.Revanth said policing cannot function on ‘autopilot mode’ and requires constant vigilance.Without naming any govt, Shivadhar Reddy recalled that until about two years ago several IPS officers remained without postings for long periods. He said the situation changed after Revanth assumed office, with officers now being regularly assigned responsibilities.
