Nagpur: The Nagpur Rural and city police arrested eight persons in separate cases for betting on the India vs New Zealand T20 World Cup final played on Sunday. A team of Buti Bori police station (Nagpur Rural) raided a spot under a bridge in Asola, Dhawalpeth, and apprehended two persons, identified as Harshal Deole (27), a resident of Asola, Hingna taluka, and Adish Duff from Bori for allegedly accepted online bets. Police seized one smartphone valued at Rs10,000 and cash Rs10,800.A case was registered at Buti Bori Police Station under Section 49 of BNS, along with Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.In another operation the same night, the crime branch raided a residential premises near Thackeray Layout, Gita Nagar, Faras Chowk, under Mankapur police station limits.Officers trapped and arrested six individuals involved in running a sophisticated set-up. The accused included Chaitanya Kumar Thackeray (55) from Khapri Mohalla, near Itwari Post Office, Purushottam Sonkusare (53) from Anmol Nagar; and accomplices Sanju Ramtekekar, Hemraj Namdevrao Kohad (Shri Krishna Nagar, Nandanvan), and Avinash Khadke from Lalganj and one more person.Authorities confiscated one TV, 10 mobile phones, and electronic equipment totalling 1.38 lakh. Mankapur police filed a case under the Public Gambling Act.
