Kolkata: The city sky was covered by cloud by Monday evening, but Kolkata escaped with only an insignificant drizzle during the day. The Met office, however, did not rule out the chances of further thunderstorm activity in Kolkata, as well as parts of south Bengal districts, till Wednesday.“We will continue to encounter some cloudiness. The possibility of light rain in Kolkata is there till Wednesday,” said meteorologist HR Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.
Met officials said, the city currently was getting the southerly and south-westerly wind system mostly. While Kolkata escaped the thundershower, parts of districts like Bankura and Purulia experienced light to moderate rain.While the day started on a sunny note, by Monday afternoon clouds started gathering over the Kolkata sky. The cloud cover, however, forced the maximum to dip to 30.4° on Monday from 31.4° the previous day. While the maximum was 2.6 notches below normal, the minimum at 23.9°s was 2.2 notches above normal.“We do not expect any significant variation in the temperature for the next three days in the city, but the mercury is set to start rising after that,” said.The day temperature soared to 33.1° on March 3, making it the highest this year.
