Dhanbad: More than 200 women took part in a scooty rally from the district collectorate on Monday to mark International Women’s Day, spreading the message of women’s empowerment and pledging to build a drug-free and child marriage-free Jharkhand.The rally was flagged off by deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan and SSP Prabhat Kumar. The rally passed through city centre before concluding at Randhir Verma Chowk.Ranjan highlighted several initiatives being implemented in the district to promote women’s empowerment. Self-help groups are being formed to connect women with self-employment opportunities and provide them with skill training. In Belgaria, groups of 80 women each are being trained in activities such as mushroom cultivation and preparation of bamboo and jute products to enhance their livelihood opportunities.Kumar said that women today are contributing equally alongside men in every field.The rally saw participation from women police personnel, supervisors, CDPOs, anganwadi workers and Poshan Sakhis. Participant Sandhya Kumari said such programmes boost their confidence and motivate them to work harder and perform their duties more effectively.
