Jhansi: A 38-year-old man was shot at close range by two motorbike-borne unknown assailants while he was driving a two-wheeler in the Mauranipur area of Jhansi district on Saturday evening. The victim succumbed around midnight during treatment, while the accused were still at large. As per police, the victim had a few criminal cases lodged against him and was recently out of jail on bail. His mother was former corporator of the area.According to reports, Satish Srivas, resident of Nai Basti, was on a two-wheeler and as he reached near Damele Chowk, two assailants on a motorbike approached him and the pillion rider shot him at close range before fleeing. Satish fell to the ground. On being alerted, police took him to the community health centre. He was later referred to Jhansi Medical College in critical condition. SSP Jhansi BBGTS Murthy reached to assess the situation. Late at night, Satish succumbed to injuries during treatment.“Three teams have been formed to trace and catch the accused while discussions with family members have revealed that the murder was fallout of personal issues,” SSP Murthy said.FIR was lodged against unknown persons on charges of attempt to murder initially at Mauranipur police station, while police said charges of murder would be included in further course of investigation.
