Patna: A 25-year-old woman in Darbhanga has accused her live-in partner of forcing her to undergo four abortions over the past few years and threatening to kill her if she refused to terminate her current five-month pregnancy. The accused had promised to marry her and began living with her, police said.The woman, who has been living with him since 2019, filed a complaint at the local police station on Sunday. She stated that she worked as a security guard at an online examination centre in 2019, where she met Adarsh Singh, who was also employed as a guard. They became acquainted, started talking over the phone, and soon entered into a relationship. He expressed his love, promised marriage and began living with her in a rented room. “He introduced me as his wife to neighbours and shifted with me to 11 different rooms,” she said.She alleged that she became pregnant four times, but Adarsh pressured her into terminating each pregnancy, claiming he did not want a girl child. “All four times, he forced me to undergo abortion, saying we can’t keep a girl,” she said.Now five months pregnant, she said Adarsh is again pressuring her to abort the child and assaulted her when she refused. “On February 22, he came home drunk, beat me, and threw me out at 11 pm,” she claimed.The woman said she had earlier approached the women’s police station but received no assistance. She then met Darbhanga SSP Jagunath Reddy, who directed officials to register a case.“We have registered a case and are investigating. Action will be taken against the accused,” said Manisha Kumari, officer-in-charge of the women’s police station.The woman said she now fears for her life. “I am not being allowed to enter my rented room and am struggling to survive,” she added.
